Freddie - May 27th - update

June 1st, 2010 by sally

Dear Parents & Children

At the beginning of this half term we had our first fund raiser for Freddie, the coffee morning on 28th April. Since then, there have been further fund raising events both within and outside of the school, and donations from Freddie’s family and friends, parents and children of St Helens, and the wider community. Together we have raised an incredible £65,000.

We could never have imagined that in only 6 weeks the initial target would have not only been reached but exceeded. The funds which our community has raised will meet the costs of all treatments that are planned for Freddie so far. However, he may need further treatments. Therefore, we will continue to collect funds raised for Freddie. In the event that there are funds left over once treatment has been completed we will put these towards the cost of home schooling which Freddie will need having had so much time away from school.

It is really wonderful how our community has come together in response to this appeal. So many people have been so generous, not only in terms of financial contributions but also in donating their time and their skills all of which have played an essential part in achieving our goal.

On behalf of the Friends of St Helens we would like to extend our warmest thanks to everyone who has been involved.

More Freddie News - May 19th

May 19th, 2010 by sally

Dear Parents

As you know the response to our appeal for Freddie has been phenomenal.  As a result of pledged donations from Freddie’s family, friends, our school and the wider  community we have now raised a staggering £50,000.

Given the success of the appeal we would like to fund all four treatments.  We estimate the cost of this to be £60,000.00, so please keep those fund raising events rolling!

Looking ahead it may be that Freddie will require two further treatments at an estimated cost of £30,000 - we shall keep you updated about these.

Freddie popped into school on Tuesday and spent 20 minutes with his class and was his usual cheeky, upbeat self talking about this treatment in Germany.

Thank you very much for all your support, help and donations without which the treatment would not have been possible for Freddie.  I look forward to seeing our children running for Freddie on Sunday.

UPDATE ON FREDDIE

May 9th, 2010 by sally

An Update from Tania Rowe

Fred has been very poorly, but he is through the worst of this cycle of treatment now and has been very brave throughout. He still is in some pain (from the antibodies) and is very itchy (from the morphine given for the pain). We are hoping to come home next Thursday, with interim tests at Great Ormond Street Hospital before we come back for cycle two. He is getting very homesick now and particularly misses his dog, Bob.

Tania would like to thank all the children and parents who sent in money for Fred.

We have had donations of £2339.

The coffee morning raised £268.44.
